Finland, which holds the EU Presidency during the second half of 2006, will participate in CHTF 2006 together with the European Commission to present EU science and technology activities as well as EU-China cooperation projects.
Finland is ranked as one of the most innovative and competitive countries in the world. Finnish innovation environment and high-tech know-how will also be presented this year at the China High-Tech Fair in Shenzhen.
Collaboration between China and Finland has grown rapidly. The size of the Finnish community in China has also increased due to strengthening of Sino-Finnish economic cooperation. The Finnish Embassy and Consulate Generals in China cooperate with other Finnish organizations such as Tekes and Finland China Innovation Center. Together these organizations are enhancing partnerships between Chinese and Finnish companies, universities and research centers.

The Consulate General of Finland in Guangzhou officially started its operation in June 2005. The Consulate General of Finland in Guangzhou represents Finland in southern China. Its jurisdiction comprises the provinces of Guangdong, Fujian, Hainan and Guangxi autonomous region. In cooperation with other organizations the Consulate General seeks to promote Finland and further develop commercial, economic and cultural relations between Finland and China. Guangzhou, Shenzhen and their surroundings provide Finnish companies with excellent opportunities for widening cooperation with the Chinese. Promoting Finnish culture and its visibility is a focal activity for the Consulate General. The Consulate General offers consular services to Finnish citizens and visa services for Chinese nationals.
Tekes, the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation

Tekes is the main public financing organization for research and development in Finland. Tekes finances industrial projects as well as projects in research institutes in Finland. Tekes especially promotes innovative, risk-intensive projects. Participants from abroad are encouraged to cooperate with Tekes technology programmes. Tekes focuses on technologies in fields of Information and communications, Bio and Chemical, Materials, Product and Production, Energy, Environment and Construction. In 2006 Tekes technology programme volume totaled 1.7 billion euros. In 2005, Tekes funded more than 2,100 different R&D projects with 429 million euros in Finland. Annually about 3,000 companies and 800 research units work with Tekes. Tekes has offices in China within the Finnish Embassy in Beijing and the Consulate General in Shanghai.
